Categories
Categories are a fundamental part of organizing your requests and events in Fairmarkit. They allow you to classify your spend, structure your intake process, and generate detailed reports. This guide will walk you through how to manage your categories in the Administration section.
Navigating to the Categories Page
To manage your categories, you must have administrative privileges.
Click on Administration in the top navigation bar.
Select Categories from the left-hand sidebar.

Understanding Taxonomies
Fairmarkit supports multiple category structures - or taxonomies. By default, your organization will have the "Fairmarkit taxonomy (Default)," but you can create and manage multiple taxonomies to suit your business needs (e.g., one for IT, one for Marketing). You can switch between taxonomies using the dropdown menu at the top of the page.
Creating a New Category
To add a new category to the selected taxonomy:
Click the + Create category button in the top-right corner.
The Create category modal will appear.

Title: Enter the name of your new category (e.g., "IT Peripherals").
Available in Intake: This toggle determines whether this category will be available for users to select when submitting a new request through the intake process. It is enabled by default.
Click Create to add the new category to your list.
Bulk Importing and Exporting Categories
For easier management of large and complex category structures, you can import and export your categories using a CSV file.
Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
Select either Import from CSV or Export to CSV.

Export to CSV: This will download your current category taxonomy as a CSV file. You can use this file to make bulk edits or as a template for a new taxonomy.
Import from CSV: This allows you to upload a CSV file to create or update a taxonomy. Ensure your file follows the required format for a successful import.
Making Categories Available in Intake
The "Available in Intake" column shows which categories are selectable by users during the request intake process. You can quickly see which categories are enabled at a glance. To change the availability of a category, you will need to edit the category directly.
