# Creating a Sourcing Event

Creating a Sourcing Event from a Request

When a request is ready for sourcing, the Buyer clicks **Start Sourcing** to open the Create dialog. Two options may be available depending on your company configuration.

***

### Event creation options

#### Adaptive RFx

Creates a sourcing event using your company's default event template. No template selection is required — the event is pre-configured and ready to set up immediately.

**Use this when:**

* You want to get started quickly with standard settings
* No specific template is needed for this sourcing category

#### Adaptive RFx with Template

Creates a sourcing event based on a template you choose. Templates define event configuration — question sets, supplier criteria, scoring, deadlines, and other settings — so the event is pre-structured for a specific category or sourcing scenario.

**Use this when:**

* Your procurement team has templates set up for specific categories (e.g. IT, Facilities, Professional Services)
* You want consistent structure and question sets across events of the same type

> ⚠️ **This option may not be visible in your account.** A Superadmin can enable or disable "Create from Template" in Company Settings. If you don't see this option and believe you should, contact your Fairmarkit administrator.

### Step-by-step: Create an Adaptive RFx

1. Open the request and click **Start Sourcing**.
2. In the Create dialog, select **Adaptive RFx**.
3. Click **Next** (or **Create**) to proceed.
4. The event opens in Draft status with your company's default configuration applied.
5. Review and edit event details, then invite suppliers before publishing.

2. In the Create dialog, select **Adaptive RFx with Template**.
3. Click **Next** to open the template selector.
4. Browse or search available templates and select the one that fits your sourcing need.
5. Click **Create** to generate the event.
6. The event opens in Draft status pre-configured with the template settings.
7. Review and adjust any details as needed, then invite suppliers before publishing.

> 💡 Template settings — such as question sets and scoring criteria — can still be edited after the event is created in Draft status.

### What happens next

Whichever option you choose, the event is created in **Draft** status and linked to the request. The request status updates to **In Progress**.

From here you can:

* Review and edit event details
* Add or review supplier recommendations
* Publish the event when it is ready

See Stage 3 — Event Draft for a full walkthrough of what to do next.

### For Superadmins — controlling template availability

The "Create from Template" option is controlled at the company level.

1. Go to **Administration → Company Settings**.
2. Find the **Requests** section.
3. Toggle **Create from Template** on or off.

When disabled, the **Adaptive RFx with Template** option is hidden from the Create dialog for all users in the company. The **Adaptive RFx** option remains available at all times.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.fairmarkit.com/product-guides/creating-a-sourcing-event.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
